Newsletter Spring 2020
Well its Springtime, at least on the calendar and many of us have already taken the sticks out of the closet and thought we were done putting into a glass on our carpets. We watched several weeks ago the advertisements for the Masters with pictures of the Azaleas and beautiful fairways.
There was heavy anticipation of watching Tiger prowling the fairways and pouncing on greens draining must make putts we can only imagine in our dreams.
There we were watching the Tour Championship and the next day we weren’t. Everything came crashing down. No NCAA Basketball Championship, Hockey Championship, Wrestling Championship. No College Football Spring games. No Lacrosse, Baseball, Tennis, no anything. The NBA, NHL, XFL, MLB closed down (postponed) We were left with reruns of tournaments we knew the results, YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime and AppleTV has helped with binge watching. We, for the most part are hunkered down in our homes with our children and spouses. Why you ask? Unless you haven’t been watching, a microbe has brought us to our knees. If the SciFi fans among us remember “The War of The Worlds” a microbe(virus) saved our planet. Here it’s a virus that has us held captive or has it.
From friends, golf is still being played with some modifications (precautions). Flagsticks are not pulled. Sand trap rakes are removed. Minimizing spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19). At a club Sandy belongs to, the Caddies don’t pull the club, are wearing masks, sterile gloves and are not tending pins. The Clubhouses, bars, food and facilities are otherwise closed as well. Emphasis is on separation and some places are using one person in a cart and sanitizing them with anti-microbials. Bottom line golf can be played if done safely and your Governor hasn’t stopped it. As I finished this the US OPEN has been similarly pushed further on the calendar. The PGA Tournament went the way of the Masters and Women’s Amateur.

Common sense needs to prevail. If you have predisposing medical problems (lung, heart, diabetes) be careful. Continue social distancing, staying indoors when you can and wear a mask or even a scarf when out. Avoid large crowds! Oh, yeah don’t go out unnecessarily remember risk, reward. Please don’t infect us old codgers.
Golf will be back soon perhaps without spectators for awhile but on TV. The Masters is planning on returning in October. Golfers are a glass half-full gang. We will overcome this! Give you 2 a side on it!
